Robertson Picks Up NEWMAC Field Hockey Player of the Week Honors

Shara Robertson SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Sept. 20, 2010) – Mount Holyoke College junior Shara Robertson has been named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Player of the Week for the week of September 13-19. It is the first time in her career that she has earned the award.

Robertson racked up four goals and one assist in a 1-1 week for the Lyons. The forward figured in on all four goals in her team's 4-0 triumph over Smith College on Friday. In addition to posting her second hat trick of the season, she was also credited with an assist. Over her outstanding career, Robertson has recorded three goals or more on four occasions.

Her most dramatic goal of the week came in a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime setback against Wesleyan University on Wednesday. With Mount Holyoke trailing 2-1 and the clock expired, she found the back of the cage off of a penalty corner set to send things to overtime.

Thus far this season, Robertson has amassed seven goals and one assist. For her career, she has totaled 65 points on 30 goals and five assists. Eight of her tallies have gone down as match winners.

No stranger to NEWMAC accolades, Robertson earned Second Team All-Conference honors last fall after securing the league's Rookie of the Year award in 2008. She was also named to the NFHCA Division III New England East Second Team last year.

The Lyons (3-1, 1-0 NEWMAC) will return to action on Tuesday, when they visit Western New England College for a non-conference contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
