Slysz Recognized Nationally For Second Straight Week

Stephanie Slysz SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 28, 2010) – For the second week in a row, Mount Holyoke College field hockey player Stephanie Slysz has been named to the womensfieldhockey.com national honor roll. The first year propelled the Lyons to a perfect 2-0 week with her outstanding play in victories over WPI and Clark University. She was also named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week.

Slysz was at her best in the Lyons' dramatic 3-2 triumph over Clark on Saturday. In addition to posting an assist during regulation, she found the back of the cage for the winner 6:51 into overtime. With the win, Mount Holyoke clinched a spot in the NEWMAC Tournament for the 12th year in a row. Slysz also scored a goal in her team's 2-1 victory over WPI on Tuesday.

After a slow start to her collegiate career, she recorded goals in six straight matches before going scoreless in her team's 4-2 triumph over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth last night. Over that span, she found the back of the cage seven times to bring her season total to eight. The Lyons have strung together five straight wins and have come out on top in six of their last seven outings.

They will close out their regular season against NEWMAC foe Springfield College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. With a win in that match, Mount Holyoke (10-5, 4-3 NEWMAC) would gain home field advantage for the Quarterfinal Round of the NEWMAC Tournament, which is slated to take place next Tuesday.
