Slysz Claims NEWMAC Player of the Week Accolades

Field Hockey SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 25, 2010) – The awards continue to roll in for Mount Holyoke College field hockey player Stephanie Slysz. Most recently, the first year was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week for the week of October 18-24. Slysz propelled Mount Holyoke to a perfect 2-0 week with her outstanding play in victories over WPI and Clark University. The forward totaled five points on two goals and an assist.

Slysz was at her best in the Lyons' dramatic 3-2 triumph over Clark on Saturday. In addition to posting an assist during regulation, she found the back of the cage for the winner 6:51 into overtime. With the win, Mount Holyoke clinched a spot in the NEWMAC Tournament for the 12th year in a row. Slysz also scored a goal in her team's 2-1 victory over WPI on Tuesday.

After a slow start to her collegiate career, she has recorded goals in each of Mount Holyoke's last six matches. Over that span, she has found the back of the cage seven times to bring her season total to eight. The Lyons have come out on top in five of those five contests and own a four match winning streak.

After travelling to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth for a non-conference clash beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Mount Holyoke (9-5, 4-3 NEWMAC) will close out its regular season against NEWMAC foe Springfield College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. With a win in that match, the Lyons would gain home field advantage for the Quarterfinal Round of the NEWMAC Tournament, which is slated to take place next Tuesday.
