SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Sept. 21, 2010) – Sophomore Stephanie Pascual scored the lone goal, as the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team edged Western New England College 1-0 this evening at Golden Bear Stadium. It was the Lyons second win in a row and their fourth straight over Western New England.

Pascual scored what proved to be the winner at the 31:10 mark, when her shot from the left side deflected off the stick of a Golden Bear defender and into the cage. Junior forward Shara Robertson was credited with the assist on the play. It was Pascual's first career tally.

Mount Holyoke dominated play throughout, finishing with overwhelming advantages in both shots (24-5) and penalty corner chances (13-1). For the second match in a row, the Lyons stifling defense did not allow a shot on goal. Junior goalkeeper Katie Gibson collected her fourth shutout of the season and the 11th of her career.

Meanwhile, first year Brittney O'Brien made 13 saves for Western New England (3-4, 2-0 TCCC). One of those came in the 29th minute, when she turned aside a Robertson penalty stroke.

Mount Holyoke (4-1, 1-0 NEWMAC) will play its third of four straight road contests on Saturday at Wellesley College. The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match is slated to get underway at noon.
