THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (6-5, 1-3 NEWMAC) has picked up two wins in its last three outings. Led by forward Stephanie Slysz and goalkeeper Katie Gibson, the Lyons blanked Castleton State College 3-0 on Wednesday. Slysz scored a pair of goals to increase her season total to five. Meanwhile, Gibson came up with a season best 13 saves to preserve her fifth shutout of the year and 12th of her career. Gibson has spearheaded a Mount Holyoke defense that has surrendered just 12 goals this season. The junior has posted a goals against average of 1.09 and a save percentage of .852 in 769 minutes played. On the offensive end, forward Shara Robertson has amassed 23 points on 10 goals and three assists. She was named NEWMAC Player of the Week on September 20. The Lyons have also received solid production from forward Jess Fajardo, who has collected three goals and two assists. Midfielder Taylor Hedges has dished out three assists, while defender Tricia Chase has contributed two goals and two assists.
THE ENGINEERS: One year after winning the NEWMAC Tournament and advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, MIT (13-1, 5-0 NEWMAC) has once again been dominant this fall. The Engineers have rolled to nine straight wins and own a perfect 5-0 mark in league play. Their lone loss came on September 11, when they were blanked 3-0 by Washington College. MIT's high powered offense has been paced by forward Kameron Klauber, who has racked up 40 points on 17 goals and six assists. Five of her tallies have gone down as winners. Midfielder Katie Kauffman has posted 10 goals and six assists, while forward Jessica Oleinik has chipped in with nine goals and three helpers. The Engineers have also received solid production from forward Kimberly Barker and midfielder Molly McShane, who have contributed 11 goals and 10 assists, respectively. As a team, they have outscored their opponents 63-15. Goalkeeper Keri Dixon has recorded a goals against average of 1.15 in 916 minutes played.
NEXT UP: Both squads will return to action on Tuesday. Mount Holyoke will round out its three match homestand against WPI at 7:00 p.m., while MIT will host Wellesley College at 6:00 p.m.
