Selkin Claims Victory at Wellesley Cross Country Invitational; Lyons Finish Fourth Overall

Wellesley, Mass. - September 3, 2021 - Junior Lauren Selkin (Greenwich, Conn.) took first overall at the Wellesley College Invitational on Friday night, leading the Mount Holyoke College cross country team to a fourth-place finish on the 5k course at Nehoiden Golf Club.

Selkin, the 2019 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Year, finished with a time of 18:30.4, more than five seconds faster than the runner up. Selkin, who recorded a 42-second personal-best 5k time, ran an average mile of 5:57.4 en route to her first-collegiate victory.

First-year Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) was next for the Lyons, taking 15th overall in the race with a time of 19:46.5. Rounding out the top five for Mount Holyoke College was the trio of first-year Olivia Johnson (Mount Desert, Maine), sophomore Bridget Hall (Arlington, Mass.) and sophomore Emily Hood (Hardwick, Mass.) who all finished just eight seconds apart. Johnson was first with a time of 21:26.5, followed by Hall, who posted a time of 21:33.6, ahead of Hood's mark of 21:34.4, which was also a personal best.

Next was junior Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.) with a time of 22:08.23 and first-year Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.), who clocked in at 22:22.6. Finishing out the Lyons' runners was first-year Julia Burm (Hingham, Mass.), who turned in a time of 22:54.5.

Next up, Mount Holyoke College will return to action on Saturday, September 18 when the Lyons travel to North Dartmouth, Mass. for the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. The race is set to begin at 12 p.m.
