Cross Country Records Third-Place Finish at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

North Dartmouth, Mass. - September 18, 2021 - Junior standout Lauren Selkin (Greenwich, Conn.) claimed second overall at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday afternoon, leading the Mount Holyoke College cross country team to a third-place finish out of 30 teams on the 5k course. The Lyons scored 96 points and finished behind Brandeis, which was ranked No. 29 in all of Division III heading into the weekend and WPI, which was ranked No. 32.

Selkin produced a 49-second personal best with a mark of 17:41.2, averaging 5:41 per mile. Next for the Lyons was senior Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif.) who ran a top-20 finish taking 18th overall with a time of 19:00.3, a 17-second personal best. Next up was senior Madeline Rieders (Arlington, Mass.) who ran a season-best time of 19:18.9 followed by senior Hannah Rieders (Arlington, Mass.) who also claimed a season-best mark of 19:19.3. Rounding out the field in the varsity race for Mount Holyoke College was first-year Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) who ran a career-best time of 19:21.8.

Mount Holyoke College also had eight student-athletes compete in the JV race. The Lyons finished fifth overall scoring 123 points beating New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) teams in Wellesley and Springfield. Leading the pack was sophomore Bridget Hall (Arlington, Mass.) who finished 15th with a personal-best time of 20:25.4. Next up was first-year Olivia Johnson (Mount Desert, Maine) coming in at 20:39.2, a 12-second personal best, followed by classmate Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.) who finished strong with a time of 20:58.7, a 1:24 season best.

Next up for the Lyons was sophomore Emily Hood (Hardwick, Mass.), who produced a personal best of 21:08.0 followed by junior Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.), who claimed a 59-second season-best time of 21:09.4. Next was first-year Amelia Arthur (Palo Alto, Calif.) who ran a 31-second personal best of 21:15.4. Junior Eliza Butler (Hartsdale, N.Y.), competing for the first time in over 19 months, ran an impressive 1:11 personal-best time of of 21:44.6. Rounding out the field for the Lyons was first-year Julia Burm (Hingham, Mass.) who ran a 40-second season-best time of 22:14.0.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will head to the Purple Valley Classic, hosted at Mount Greylock High School in Williamstown, Mass. on Saturday, September 25. The race is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
