Track And Field Competes At Gordon Kelly Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke track and field team competed at the Gordon Kelly Invitational hosted by MIT on Saturday and  turned in a number of solid finishes.

First year Minerva Veeser-Bobea (Arlington, Mass.Arlington) had two solid performances today as she placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.91, while placing eighth in the 60m dash, crossing the line in 8.45.

In the 400m dash, first year Saarah Omar (Kotte, Sri Lanka/Colombo International School) secured a ninth place finish with a time of 1:21.46. Senior Emma Tolerton (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) and first year Caitlin Lynch (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) placed ninth and 11th in the 600m, respectively. Tolerton recorded a time of 1:54.64, and Lynch finished in 1:56.26.

The Lyons performed well in the mile run with two runners placing in the top-10. Junior Mia Barnes (Thornville, Ohio/Monteverde Friends School) was fourth with a time of 5:43.99, while sophomore Corrin Moss (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Alternative High School) was close behind in sixth with a time of 5:48.83.

Following Barnes and Moss, junior Hannah Gershone (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) finished in 12th place with a time of 6:00.79. First year Emma Raney (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) was right behind in 13th place and a time of 6:07.04, while junior Julia Criscione (Bernardsville, N.J./Villa Walsh Academy) was 15th with a time of 6:19.51.

In the long jump, sophomore Donari Yahzid (Atlanta, Ga./Fountain Valley School of Colorado) jumped 4.99m, which was good for third place and a New England DIII qualifying mark. In the shot put, junior Shante Henderson (New York, N.Y./Brooklyn Theatre Arts School) placed 17th with a distance of 10.54m, while sophomore Julia Hecking (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) threw a distance of 10.97m in the weight throw event.

Mount Holyoke will be back in action on Friday, traveling back to Cambridge, Mass. To compete in the New England Division III Championships. The event will continue into Saturday.
