Lyons Place Ninth In The Smith College Invite

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.- The Mount Holyoke College  track & field team competed at the Smith College Invitational on Saturday. The Lyons had several solid performances to go towards a ninth-place finish at the event.

Sophomore Donari Yahzid (Atlanta, Ga./Fountain Valley School of Colorado) turned in an excellent effort in the long jump, posting a distance of 4.90, good for third place. In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore Corrin Moss (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Alternative) was sixth with a time of 20:31.65, while first year Kayla Dillon (Great Barrington, Mass./Monument Mountain Regional) finished 11th in a time of 21:22.03. Classmate Emma Raney (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) turned in an 11th-place performance, crossing the line with a time of 21:46.17.

The 200-meter dash saw first year Charleen Theroux (Coventry, R.I./Coventry) finish sixth with a time of 28.01. First year Minerva Veeser-Bobea (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) finished 15th overall in a time of 29.47, while classmate Obaa Yaa Anin-Yeboah (Accra, Ghana/SOS Herman Gmeiner International School) was close behind with a time of 29.91, good for 17th. Veeer-Bobea also had a solid performance in the 60-meter with a qualifying time of 8.54, which put her seventh overall.

In the 3,000 meter, junior Mia Barnes (Thornville, Ohio/Monteverde Friends School) turned in an 11th-place finish with a time of 11:49.93.

In the field events, junior Shante Henderson (New York, N.Y./Brooklyn Theatre Arts School) turned in a 10th-place effort in the shot put, throwing a distance of 9.28 meters. Sophomore Julia Hecking (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) was 16th with a distance of 8.07 meters, while tossing 9.55 meters in the weight throw, good for 12th overall.

Mount Holyoke will be back in action next Saturday at the Springfield College Invitational starting at 11:00am.
