Track and Field Finishes Ninth At NEWMAC Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College track and field team competed at the NEWMAC Championship hosted by MIT on Saturday. The Lyons finished ninth behind five top-10 finishes.

In the mile run, first year Alicia Moroyoqui (Groton, Conn./Robert E. Fitch) had the top finish with a time of 5:12.34, good for eighth place, while sophomore Corrin Moss (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Alternative HS) finished right on her hip in a time of 5:13.74 for ninth. First year Michelle Serrano (Los Angeles, Calif./West Adams Preparatory) crossed the line with a time of 5:22.74, while junior Julia Criscione (Bernardsville, N.J./Villa Walsh Academy) has a time of 5:54.45 in 15th and 19th respectively.

In the 10k run, junior Mia Barnes (Thornville, Ohio/Monteverde Friends School) took eighth place, crossing the line with a time of 43:08.42.

The Lyons saw four runners in the 800m, including Moroyoqui, who was Mount Holyoke's top finisher in 16th place with a 2:35.46 of time. Moss finished in 17th with a time of 2:37.40, followed by sophomore Emsie Cronin (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) in 18th with a 2:38.37 finish. Criscione had a time of 2:58.21, good for a 23rd place finish. In the steeple chase, first year Emma Raney (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) finished 13th with a time of 13:11.77.

In the relays, the Lyons 4x4 team finished eighth with time of 4:33.32, while the 4x1 squad was ninth with a 52:57 time. Competing in the hammer throw was sophomore Julia Hecking (Greenville, Pa./Greenville), who finished 17th with a throw of 33.75 meters.
