Nationally-Ranked Babson Tops Tennis in NEWMAC Championship Quarterfinals

Babson Park, Mass. - May 3, 2022 - Playing in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament for the 17th-straight season, the Mount Holyoke College tennis team fell to nationally-ranked Babson College, 5-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the Babson Tennis Complex.

With the win, Babson, which was the No. 3 seed in the tournament, improves to 11-9 overall and advances to the conference tournament semifinals to face second-seeded Wellesley. Mount Holyoke, which was the sixth seed, sees its season come to a close at 4-10.

Senior Nikki Cheng (Honolulu, Hawaii) and first-year Claudia Gonzalez-Vazquez (Cancun, Mexico) fell to Runsi Patro and Morgan Mann at No. 3 doubles, 8-0, before Shweta Kiran Cavale (Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India) and Hannah Middleton (Pawcatuck, Conn.) fell to Juliette Moschella and Shanaya Naik at No. 2 doubles, 8-2. Wrapping up doubles, Annika Chai (London, England) and Annissa Aamoum (Dulles, Va.) dropped an 8-4 decision at No. 1 doubles despite having a 2-1 match lead in the early stages of the day.

Babson completed the 5-0 victory with a pair of quick wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, as the Lyons season came to a close.
