Tennis Falls to Vassar in Spring Season Opener

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - February 27, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team fell to Vassar College 9-0 on Sunday afternoon as the Lyons opened the 2021-22 spring season against the Brewers in the Walker Field House. 

In doubles play, senior Annissa Aamoum (Dulles, Va.) and first-year Annika Chai (London, England) teamed up at No. 1 doubles and fell to Melina Stavropoulos and Sofie Shen 8-2, before junior Shweta Kiran Cavale (Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India) and senior Chisato Kimura (Daito, Japan) represented the Lyons at No. 2 doubles and dropped an 8-0 decision to Tatum Blalock and Macey Dowd. Rounding out doubles at No. 3 was first-year Claudia Gonzalez-Vazquez (Cancun, Mexico) and senior Nikki Cheng (Honolulu, Hawaii), who fell to Cara Kizilbash and Elyse Duley 8-1.

Blalock topped Chai at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2, before Kiran Cavale was bested by Shen 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2. Aamoum fell to Dowd 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, while Cheng suffered a 6-0, 6-0 defeat to Stavropoulos at No. 4. Kimura dropped 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 to Kizilbash, while Gonzalez-Vazquez fell to Duley 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
