Tennis Cruises to a 9-0 Victory Over Simmons

South Hadley, Mass. - April 6, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team collected their second-straight win on Wednesday afternoon as the Lyons hosted Simmons and prevailed, 9-0, in the MHC Field House.

The victory marks the second overall win of the year for Mount Holyoke College, bringing the Lyons to a record of 2-4 while Simmons falls to 7-6.  

At No. 1 doubles, the duo of Annika Chai (London, England) and Annissa Aamoum (Dulles, Va.) defeated Sarah Mariski and Megan McKeever 8-0 before Shweta Kiran Cavale (Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India) and Hannah Middleton (Pawcatuck, Conn.) cruised pass Olga Zhizhin and Libby Weed 8-2 at the No. 2 spot. Slotted at No. 3 doubles, Nikki Cheng (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Claudia Gonzalez-Vazquez (Cancun, Mexico) triumped over Leah Bonis and Samantha Margolin 8-6.

Chai notched a 6-1, 6-0 win over Zhizhin at No. 1 singles, while Kiran Cavale defeated at No. 2 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Aamoum recorded a win over Mariski 6-0, 6-0, while at No. 4, Middleton collected a 6-1, 6-0 win over McKeever. Wrapping up the match, Cheng defeated Halloran in a 6-0, 6-1 win, while Chisato Kimura (Daito, Japan) posted a 6-1, 6-4 win over Emily Lopez.

Mount Holyoke returns to the court on Saturday, April 9 when the Lyons host New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competitor Wellesley College at 11 a.m.
