Tennis Blanks Clark, 9-0, on Senior Day

South Hadley, Mass. - April 19, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team defeated Clark University, 9-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday evening in the MHC Field House. The Lyons honored the three members of their senior class prior to the match, as all three Class of 2022 graduates delivered victories in their final career home match.

Mount Holyoke jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the match with a trio of victories in doubles play. First-year Annika Chai (London, England) joined with senior Annissa Aamoum (Dulles, Va.) to defeat Hannah Russo and Grayson LaCroix 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, before junior Shweta Kiran Cavale (Chennai, Tamil, Nadu, India) and senior Hannah Middleton (Pawcatuck, Conn.) knocked off Leilani Brown and Lilya Georgista 8-6. At No. 3 doubles, senior Nikki Cheng (Honolulu, Hawaii) and sophomore Vy Hoang (Youngstown, Ohio) defeated Emily Anderson and Amy Marin 8-0.

Aamoum's singles match was the first to finish as the senior defeated Brown 6-1, 6-1, before Kiran Cavale defeated LaCroix 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Middleton prevailed over Georgista at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1, while Chai defeated Russo 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to give Mount Holyoke the 7-0 advantage.

First-year Claudia Gonzalez-Vazquez (Cancun, Mexico) earned a first-collegiate victory at No. 6 singles, defeating Nardin Sayoufi 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), before Cheng delivered a win on senior night, battling past Maeve McEnroe 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 10-5.

Mount Holyoke College will return to action on Saturday, April 23 when the Lyons head to Babson for a 10:30 a.m. match with the Beavers.
