Soccer Suffers 2-0 Setback at Smith

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Smith capitalized on a pair of goals in the second half to grab a 2-0 win over Mount Holyoke in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday evening. With the win, the Pioneers move to 6-6-3 overall and 4-3-2 in conference play, while the Lyons slip to 6-11-0 and 2-7-0 in the NEWMAC.

After a scoreless first half, which saw the homestanding Pioneers hold a 12-5 advantage in shots, Smith took control as Jordan Houston's shot in the 57th minute hit off the MHC keeper, caroming off a defender and in for the tally. Jackie Foody was credited with the assist.

The Pioneers made it a 2-0 game in the 66th minute as Emily Smith headed in a ball from the right of the 18. Foody once again earned the assist on the goal.

Smith, which held a 20-8 advantage in shots for the game, also posted a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Goalie Shelby Hall earned the win, stopping three shots on the afternoon.

For Mount Holyoke, keeper Zoe Marshall shouldered the loss, stopping nine shots.

Smith concludes its regular season slate on Saturday in a 2pm game at Wheaton. Mount Holyoke also wraps-up its regular season on Saturday in a 4pm contest at WPI.
