Soccer's Streak Halted in 1-0 Loss at Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, Conn. Sarah Hills goal in the second half helped propel Coast Guard to a 1-0 victory over Mount Holyoke in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday evening. The loss snapped the Lyons two-game win streak in NEWMAC action and drops MHC to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

The first half saw each team come out defensively as much of the period was played in the midfield. The Bears best chance came at the end of the half as junior Caroline Eastman found herself streaking down the left flank headed for goal. As she went to set herself to shoot a Mount Holyoke defender managed to block her shot, and clear the ball out of danger .

Coast Guard came out strong in the second half and dominated the rest of the way but could not find the back of the net as many of their shots were from outside Mount Holyoke's eighteen yard box.

The Bears finally broke the deadlock as senior Julia Mundy lobbed a ball into the Lyon's penalty box. The ball bounced and a Mount Holyoke defender missed an attempt to clear the ball. Lyon's senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Randall came off her line to grab the ball but was beaten too it by Hills, who headed it past her for team-leading fifth goal of the year.

Coast Guard dominated the offensive third as they outshot Mount Holyoke 28-3 and 11-1 in shots on goal.

Senior Holly Moore made one save in the victory pushing the team's record to 8-5-1 and 3-3 in the NEWMAC Conference. Randall made ten saves in net for the Lyons.

Coast Guard returns to action on Tuesday, October 21st when it travels to Wheaton for a 3:30pm game. Mount Holyoke is back on the pitch on Saturday as it also to Wheaton for a 2pm match.
