Robinson Leads Soccer to Double OT Victory

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Senior forward Cassidy Robinson scored in the 107th minute propelling the Mount Holyoke College soccer team to a 2-1 double-overtime victory against Western New England University on Tuesday evening. With the win – their first over WNE in the all-time series – the Lyons move to 3-3 on the season. The Golden Bears are now 2-4-1 overall.

Locked in a 1-1 battle through the first overtime, Robinson (Lebanon, N.H./Lebanon) lifted the Lyons to victory collecting a pass from sophomore defender Rebecca Levkowicz (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Beaver Country Day), who had dribbled it down the right side, and firing it over the head of goalie Casey Magee (Mattapoisett, Mass./Old Rochester Regional).

It was the second tally of the contest for Robinson, who got gave Mount Holyoke the 1-0 advantage after a scoreless first half of action. In the 51st minute, senior midfielder Tori Shaffrey (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) passed the ball into the middle where Robinson received it, dribbled around a defender and fired it into the high left corner.

Western New England responded in the 63rd minute as junior Forward Emma Norden (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) corralled the loose ball in front and dribbled down the middle to send it into the lower left corner past MHC keeper Zoe Marshall (Mississauga, Ont./Cawthra Park Secondary).

The Golden Bears, who outshot the Lyons by a 10-4 clip for the game, had several chances during the first overtime to grab the winner. Off a solid corner, senior forward Tayler Mazurski (Wolcott, Conn./Wolcott) sent a shot in low off a narrow angle, but Marshall was there to make the grab and send it into double overtime for Robinson's heroics.

Mount Holyoke saw Marshall move to 2-1 on the season, stopping five shots in the victory. For WNE, Magee made one stop. The Golden Bears also held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

Both teams return to action on Saturday at 1pm with Mount Holyoke opening its NEWMAC schedule at home against Babson, while Western New England travels to Roger Williams for a Commonwealth Coast Conference match-up.
