WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the 2019 Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Team and major honors on Thursday and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Abby Baldwin was recognized. The first year attack was named to the conference's Second Team, the first honor of her career, after leading the Lyons in nearly every statistical category. She was also the top scoring rookie among all first years in the NEWMAC.
A native of Florence, Mass., Baldwin scored 62 goals with 11 assists for 73 points during her rookie campaign. A starter in all 16 contests for the Lyons, she added 132 shots, including 96 on goal. In addition to going 15-30 in free position attempts, she also added 45 ground balls, 76 draw controls and 15 caused turnovers. Baldwin scored at least one point in all 16 games, including 15 multi-point efforts. She also had at least one ground ball and one draw control in every game. For the season, her goals and points rank her sixth and ninth, respectively in the Lyons' all-time season-records. She also became the first player since the 2014 season to record over 60 goals and 70 points.
The former Northampton High School standout finished the season as the highest scoring rookie in the conference. Among the NEWMAC's best, she ranked third in overall goals (4th in conference), sixth in overall points (8th in conference), second in both shots (3rd in conference) and shots on goal (6th in conference). Additionally, she ranked third (16th in conference) overall in ground balls and second (7th in conference) in draw controls. A NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week honoree on February 25th, she also ranked third among conference players in free position goals (2nd in conference).
Baldwin had eight games on the season where she recorded four or more goals. Additionally, she had four contests in which she scored six goals. Among the highlights of her season included six goals with an assist, four ground balls, six draw controls and four caused turnovers in her first collegiate game against Gordon - an 18-3 victory. She had six goals, including the game-winner in a 13-12 victory over Morrisville State and also tallied six goals with four draw controls in a 15-12 win against Wellesley.
In addition to lacrosse, Baldwin is also a member of the Lyons field hockey team, where she started all 19 games in 2018. She also recorded three goals and two assists for a total of eight points.
Mount Holyoke finished the season with a 7-9 record, going 2-6 in NEWMAC play.
