Lacrosse Edges Morrisville State in Overtime

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Rookie attack Abby Baldwin fired in the game-winner in overtime to lift the Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team to a 13-12 win over Morrisville State College on Thursday morning. The Lyons move to 3-2 on the season, while the Mustangs slip to 1-4 overall.

The Lyons were paced in their final Florida contest by Baldwin, who recorded six goals with an assist. Senior attacker Deyscha Smith added three goals and a helper, while rookie Caroline Flynn had two tallies. First year Allie Brown and junior midfielder and captain Julianna Rankin each added a goal and an assist. In goal, the Lyons saw junior Mia Wysocki make four saves, while sophomore Sophia Brooks-Randall earned the victory with five stops through the final 22:08 of the contest and into overtime.

For the Mustangs, junior attacker Chelsea McNeal and senior attack Celia Abbott each recorded three goals. Sophomore midfielder Makenzi Santini added two goals while four other players notched a goal each. In goal, rookie Kadi Bice stopped nine shots.

The game was locked in a 6-all tie following the opening half of action. Morrisville State broke the tie early in the frame as Abbott and McNeal scored in the first six minutes. The Lyons countered as Flynn found the back of the net, but the Mustangs pulled ahead once more.

Mount Holyoke faced a 12-10 deficit with 2:10 remaining before Rankin answered, followed by a game-tying goal from Flynn at 1:32 to force the match into the extra session and later the victory.

The Lyons return to action on Wednesday when they host Salve Regina at 5:30pm on the Turf Field. Morrisville State is also back on the field on Wednesday, traveling to SUNY Potsdam for a 4pm match.
