Kalahe and Jacob Named Lyons of the Week

South Hadley, Mass. - December 7, 2021 - Mount Holyoke College's Mihiliya Kalahe (Panadura, Sri Lanka) of the squash team and Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif.) of the track and field team have collected Lyon of the Week honors for their impressive performances over the past two weeks.

Kalahe, a senior Psychology major at Mount Holyoke College, was impressive for the squash program as Mount Holyoke College opened the 2021-22 season with a pair of matches on November 20 and November 21. On November 20, Kalahe defeated Wesleyan's Laila Kewalramani 3-0 (11-2, 11-2, 11-6) at the top spot. On Sunday, Kalahe improved to 2-0 on the year after defeating Pam Jeramillo from Bard, 11-2, 11-0, 11-2.

Jacob, a senior Biology major at Mount Holyoke College, had a record-breaking performance that Boston University's Sharon Colyear Invitational. Jacob broke the 1000-meter school record by 3.54 seconds, crossing the line with a time of 2:59.99. This marks a 6.88-second personal record for the biology major. The record was previously held by Elizabeth DeLeon who ran a time of 3:03.53 in 2015. Jacob currently holds two school records as she broke the 4 x 800 meter relay record in 2019.
