It was an outstanding season for the Mount Holyoke tennis team, going 14-9 overall and 4-4 in NEWMAC action. Under the direction of 22nd-year head coach Aldo Santiago, the Lyons posted a win in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals to advance to the Semifinals for the fifth time in program history and the first since the 2006 season.
The Lyons opened the 2014-15 campaign with a 9-0 win at UMass-Boston and shifted into a back-and-forth battle for much of September. MHC suffered a loss to Simmons (5-4), but answered with a 9-0 win over the University of St. Joseph. A loss to Wheaton (5-4) in the NEWMAC opener gave way to a 9-0 victory against Emerson.
MHC suffered a pair of losses, but closed out the month with a 7-2 win against area-rival, Smith College. The Lyons also saw junior captain Margaux Holloschutz and first year Ishita Tibrewal play at the ITA New England Regionals. The duo were unable to get the win in doubles and both fell in singles action, despite a hard-fought effort from Holloschutz.
The Lyons headed into the final stretch before playoffs on a high note, going 2-1 with wins over Clark (8-1) and Springfield (8-1) to secure its spot in the NEWMAC Tournament. The Lyons faced a tough-draw in the quarterfinals, but rebounded from a loss earlier this season to defeat Wheaton on the road by a 5-2 margin.
In the NEWMAC Semifinals, MHC squared off against the defending champions from MIT, suffering a 5-0 loss to conclude the fall season.
The Lyons burst into spring action ready to go. Despite an opening loss to nationally-ranked Bates, MHC headed to Puerto Rico, posting spring training trip victories over the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (6-3) and Bayamon (7-2). The team returned home and picked up a 9-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer to kick-off April.
Powered by a four-contest win streak, the Lyons headed to Smith College to take part in the 2015 Seven Sisters Championship. Action at this year's event saw the Lyons finish third overall with a 2-2 mark. MHC defeated Bryn Mawr (4-1) and Smith (4-1), led by Seven Sisters All-Tournament Team selections Amy Chen and Tibrewal.
Mount Holyoke concluded its 2014-15 campaign on a strong note, posting an 8-1 victory against Roger Williams. The contest marked the final collegiate career match for senior Sarah Anischik.
Among the accolades the Lyons received in 2014-15 included two selections to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team. Those honored were Anischik and junior Michelle Cai. Additionally, Anischik was named a Seven Sisters Senior Scholar Athlete.
