LEWISTON, Maine – The Mount Holyoke College tennis team opened the spring season on Sunday, falling by a tough 9-0 margin on the road at Bates College. With the win, the Bobcats improved to 3-3, while the Lyons slipped to 7-7 on the season.
The Lyons entered into singles action down 3-0 to the Bobcats, who posted 8-1 and 8-0 decisions in the first and second flights. MHC's Alexa Colas and Mira Murali battled in the third flight, but fell to Bates' Emma Blakely and Kate Rosenthal by an 8-5 margin.
In singles action, first year Ishita Tibrewal put up a tough fight at the fourth flight, but was unable to get past Rosenthal, falling 6-4, 6-1. MHC's Michelle Cai also had a strong battle in the sixth position, falling by a 6-4, 6-2 score to Madeline Stein.
The Bobcats next host Colby in NESCAC action on Wednesday, March 18 at 5:00pm. Mount Holyoke, which will travel to Puerto Rico for training trip on the school's spring break, is back to action on April 11-12 when it competes at the Seven Sisters Championship, hosted by Smith College.
