Tennis Defeats Connecticut College, 6-3

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Powered by a sweep of doubles and strong wins from the lower half of the singles lineup, the Mount Holyoke College tennis team defeated Connecticut College by a 6-3 margin on Saturday at the MHC Field House. With the win, the Lyons improve to 10-7 on the season, while the Camels - who are ranked #19 in the region - are now 5-6 overall.

Mount Holyoke got things going early in doubles action, led by the first flight pair of junior captain Margaux Holloschutz and first year Ishita Tibrewal. The duo was able to gut out a 9-7 win against CC's Aleksandra Drljaca and Adrieene Sieverding.

In the second flight, senior Sarah Anischik and sophomore Amy Chen combined for a 9-8 (7-4) victory against Camels' duo Angelica Warren and Charlotte Marcoux. Sophomores Alexa Colas and Mira Murali rounded out the action against Connecticut's Ellie Rudd and Emily White, winning by an 8-6 margin.

Singles action saw the fourth through six flights prove critical as the Camels came out strong for wins in flights one through three. Drljaca posted a 6-0, 6-2 win against Holloschutz, while Marcoux was a 6-1, 6-0 winner against Ansichik at two. Sieverding grabbed CC's third point in the third flight against Murali by a 6-0, 6-1 margin.

Mount Holyoke grabbed the momentum as Tibrewal defeated Warren at four by a 6-4, 6-3 score, while the Lyons saw Colas at five pick up a 6-4, 6-1 win against White. Junior Michelle Cai finished with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Rudd.

The Lyons return to action next weekend when they host Colby-Sawyer on Saturday at 10:30am. Connecticut College is back in action this afternoon with a 3pm match at Smith.
