Tennis Posts 6-3 Win Over Puerto Rico-Mayaguez

MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico - Powered by four singles victories and a pair of doubles wins, the Mount Holyoke College tennis team kicked off its spring training trip in fine fashion. The Lyons posted a 6-3 win over the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez to improve to 8-7 on the season.

In doubles, junior Margaux Holloschutz and sophomore Alexa Colas gutted out a 9-8 (7-4) win over Nicole Rosich and Natalia Sanchez at the first flight, while first year Ishita Tibrewal and sophomore Amy Chen picked up the Lyons second point with an 8-6 win against Audra Rivera and Elena Rivera.

Holloschutz picked up a first flight victory over Rosich in singles action, winning the opening set by a 7-5 margin before her opponent retired. In the second flight, sophomore Mira Murali picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win against A. Rivera, while Tibrewal was victorious by a 6-2, 7-5 margin against Sanchez.

Colas recorded the Lyons final point in the match, defeating Argiemar Torres in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) at the fifth flight. Chen also played a tough match at six, falling to Ediza Logarev 4-6, 6-4 (10-8).

The Lyons are in action once again on Wednesday, squaring-off against the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon.
