Tennis Finishes Third at Seven Sisters Championship

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Powered by a pair of victories on day two, the Mount Holyoke College tennis team finished third overall at the 2015 Seven Sisters Championships, hosted by Smith College. The Lyons won by a 4-1 margin over both Smith and Bryn Mawr College on Sunday and improve to 13-9 on the season.

Vassar claimed this year's title, going 4-0 on the weekend, while Wellesley finished 3-1. Mount Holyoke was 2-2, Smith 1-3 and Bryn Mawr was 0-4. MHC saw sophomore Amy Chen and first year Ishita Tibrewal both named to the All-Tournament Team for their efforts.

In the morning win over Smith, junior Margaux Holloschutz gutted out a win over Kelli Cheung in the first flight of singles action, 7-6, 1-7, 6-3. In the second flight, the Pioneers saw Samantha Peikes post a hard-fought win over senior Sarah Anischik, 6-4, 1-6, 11-9.

Tibrewal picked up the win in the third flight, defeating Margaret Anne Smith, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1.

Doubles action saw the first flight pair of sophomore Alexa Colas and Chen defeat Jordan Dubin and Ruth Yi by a 7-5, 6-2 margin, while sophomore Mira Murali and junior Michelle Cai posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Seema Samawi and Anja Block to wrap up the match.

Against Bryn Mawr, Holloschutz defeated Lizzie Siegle in a wild victory, posting a 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 1-0 (10-4) first singles victory. Anischik fell against Melina Koukoutchos at two, 6-2, 6-2, while Tibrewal defeated Kendall Baller at three, 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles action, Colas and Chen posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory against the Owls pair of Tirsa Delate and Mariam Haider, while Cai and Murali won by a 6-2, 6-2 margin over Jennifer Laske and Molly MacDougall.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday, when it concludes its 2014-15 season against Roger Williams at home at 10:30am.
