Tennis Bests Colby-Sawyer, 9-0

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team used a balanced effort from its entire lineup to post a 9-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer College in non-conference action on Saturday at the MHC Field House. With the win, the Lyons improve to 11-7 on the season, while the Chargers slip to 10-9 overall.

Mount Holyoke opened action with a sweep in doubles play. Leading the charge was the first flight pairing of junior Margaux Holloschutz (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Saddle River Day School) and first year Ishita Tibrewal (Kolkata, India/Modern High School for Girls), who recorded an 8-5 victory over Colby-Sawyer first years Ashley Woodside (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) and Sam White (Stockbridge, Mass./Monument Mountain Regional).

In the second flight, senior Sarah Anischik (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) and sophomore Amy Chen (Hilo, Hawaii/Hilo) gave MHC an 8-4 win against Chargers' first year Christine Hill (Wallingford, Conn./Chase Collegiate) and senior Ellen Graham (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport).

Rounding out the doubles efforts in the third flight was sophomore Mira Murali (Fall City, Wash./American International School) and junior Michelle Cai (Hong Kong, China/St. Paul's Co-Ed. College), who defeated the Chargers' duo of first years Lauren Blanchard (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) and Marissa Ulmer (Windham, Maine/Windham) by an 8-4 margin.

In the singles competition, Holloschutz gutted out a 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7) win against Woodside at #1, while Anischik defeated White by a 7-5, 6-4 margin at #2. Murali went on to beat Hill at #3 by a 6-3, 6-3 score, while Tibrewal was victorious at #4 over Blanchard, 6-0, 6-4.

In the #5 spot, Cai posted a 6-2, 6-1 win against Graham and Chen rounded out the wins for MHC, posting a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Ulmer at #6.

Mount Holyoke is back in action next Saturday when it opens play at the 2015 Seven Sisters Championships, hosted at Smith College. The Lyons kick-off action at 11am against Vassar. Colby-Sawyer is in action on April 18, welcoming Wheaton for a 12pm contest.
