Tennis Wraps-up Action at Seven Sisters Championship

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Apr. 14, 2013) - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team concluded action at the 2013 Seven Sisters Championship on Sunday at Vassar College. The Lyons fell in the morning opener against the host Brewers by a 5-0 margin before defeating NEWMAC-rival Smith by a score of 5-0. Today's action moved MHC to 10-9 on the season with one match left to their 2012-13 schedule.

In the match against Vassar - the 25th-ranked team in the region - the first doubles pair of AnnElizabeth Konkel and Margaux Holloschutz shouldered a tough loss to the Brewers' Lauren Stauffer and Lindsay Kantor falling by a margin of 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

Senior captain Nahrhee Han also played to a tough match in her first singles flight, suffering a 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 loss to Ava Sedeghi.

In the victory over Smith, Konkel and Holloschutz posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Andrea Tanco and Kyle Gouchoe-Hanas, while senior My-Linh Nguyen and first year Michelle Cai won 6-1, 6-2 over Carly Melillo and Tessy Lopez in the second flight. As a team, Nguyen and Cai went 3 of 4 at this year's Seven Sisters.

Singles action against the Pioneers saw Han post a 6-0, 6-1 win over Seema Samawi in the first flight. Sophomore Sarah Ansichik won 6-1, 6-1 against Jinan Martiuk in the second flight, while junior Eman Malik grabbed a straight set 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kathryn Deanback in the third.

The Lyons will conclude their 2012-13 season on Saturday when it hosts Roger Williams University at 10:30am.
