Tennis Shoulders 7-2 Loss at #28 Bates to Open Spring Schedule

LEWISTON, Maine (Mar. 2, 2013) - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team kicked off the spring portion of its 2012-13 schedule on Saturday at Bates College. Despite a pair of strong singles performances, the Lyons were unable to solve the Bobcats, falling by a 7-2 margin. MHC slips to 5-6 overall, while 28th-ranked Bates moves to 2-2 on the year.

The Bobcats opened up with a solid effort in the doubles action, posting three straight wins over the Lyons to grab a strong advantage heading into singles play.

Sophomore Sarah Anischik (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) picked up one of the Lyons singles victories with a come-from-behind 0-6, 6-4, (10-3) win against Lucy Brennan in the third flight. Grabbing Mount Holyoke's other victory was first year Margaux Holloschutz (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Saddle River Day School), who battled back from a 1-6 deficit to win 6-1 with a 10-7 tiebreaker win against Nicole Russell in the fifth flight.

Junior Eman Malik (Karachi, Pakistan / Karachi Grammar School) also had a tough battle in fourth singles as she won her first set, 6-3, but dropped the second, 5-7 and lost in the tiebreaker, 4-10.

The Lyons are now idle until March 30 when they host a pair of matches at the MHC Tennis Courts. Mount Holyoke will welcome Endicott at 10am and Lesley at 2pm. Bates returns to action on Friday, hosting Babson at 3:30pm.
