Tennis Concludes Action at 2012 NEWITTs

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 13, 2012) – Mount Holyoke College saw its run at the 2012 New England Collegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) come to a close on Saturday as the three remaining Lyons teams in Round Two bowed out.

MHC's first team of senior Nahrhee Han and junior AnnElizabeth Konkel faced off against Amherst College's first team of Sue Ghosh and Jordan Brewer. The Lord Jeffs duo posted an 8-0 victory over the Lyons' pair followed by Ghosh defeating Konkel, 6-2, 6-0 and Brewer taking down Han, 6-0, 6-1.

Lyons first year Margaux Holloschutz and senior My-Linh Nguyen, the third team for MHC, fell to Brandeis's Alexa Katz and Hannah Marion in doubles by a score of 8-4. Holloschutz then lost to Katz, 6-2, 7-5, while Nguyen lost to Marion, 2-6, 7-5, (10-8).

The fourth team for Mount Holyoke of juniors Eman Malik and Maya Sayarath lost to MIT's Vynnie Kon and Meghana Vasireddy in doubles, 8-0. Malik then shouldered a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Kong, while Sayarath fell against Vasireddy, 6-1, 6-3.

In the consolation rounds, the Lyons second team of junior Kelsey Brower and sophomore Jenni Lee suffered an 8-3 loss to Trinity's Alexandra Criss and Merritt Piro. Lee went on to fall against Criss, 6-0, 6-0, while Brower bowed out to Piro, 6-1, 6-0.

Rounding out the action for Mount Holyoke in the consolations was sophomore Sarah Anischik and first year Michelle Cai. The duo dropped an 8-0 decision to Babson's Minte Tamoshunas and Victoria Lorido in doubles. Anischik went on to defeat Tamoshunas, 6-2, 6-4, but Cai shouldered a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Lorido.

The Lyons return to the courts on Tuesday with a critical NEWMAC match at Springfield at 5pm. MHC will then welcome conference –foe Babson on Saturday in the final fall match of the season at 1pm.
