Tennis Posts Key NEWMAC Win at Springfield, 7-2
Springfield, Mass. -- October 16, 2012 -- The Mount Holyoke women's tennis team defeated its counterparts from Springfield College, 7-2, thus spoiling Senior Night for the Pride in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference match-up at SC's Julius Appleton Courts.

With the win, the Lyons' record is elevated to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the NEWMAC. Springfield falls to 5-4 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

The late afternoon match began at 5 pm, with the Lyons sweeping the doubles. At No. 1, senior Nahrhee Han (Albertson, N.Y.) and junior AnnElizabeth Konkel (Camp Hill, Pa.) defeated the SC duo of senior Sam Carney (Franklin, Mass.) and Green, 8-5.

At No. 2, juniors Maya Sayarath (St. Johnsbury, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) and  Eman Malik (Karachi, Pakistan) defeated junior Sydney Streimer (Mystic, Conn.) and senior Vanessa Senecal (Seekonk, Mass.) by the same score.

And at No. 3, it was the team of senior My-Linh Nguyen (Potomac, Md.) and first year Margaux Holloschutz (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) controlling Erin Woodbury and senior Amy Buttarazzi (Scarborough, Me.), 8-2.

The remaining four singles matches were won by Mount Holyoke, led by Han at No. 1. Han won in a third set super tiebreaker over Carney, 0-6, 6-3, (10-6).

Malik, Sayarath (St. Johnsbury, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy), and Holloschutz were winners at No. 4, 5, and 6.

Springfield will conclude its dual-match fall season at Wellesley Saturday, Oct. 20 at 1 pm. Mount Holyoke wraps-up its dual-match fall season on Saturday as well, hosting Babson at 1pm.
