Nahrhee Han Honored With Prestigious Morehouse Award

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 12, 2012) – Action at the 2012 New England Collegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) kicked off on Friday afternoon at Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges. The tournament started with a special ceremony as Lyons senior Nahrhee Han was named the 2012 recipient of the prestigious Lindsay Morehouse Award, which is presented each year at NEWITT.

Presented to Han by Williams College head coach Alison Swain (cover photo), the cup acknowledges a senior player who signifies the ideals of sportsmanship, friendliness, character, fair play and hard work that Morehouse represented.  A 2000 Williams graduate and standout women's tennis player, Morehouse passed away during the tragic events of September 11, 2001.Nahrhee Han and Aldo Santiago

At the 2002 NEWITTs, Williams was presented the award to commemorate Morehouse and the contributions she made to the New England women's tennis community.  Since then, Williams hands out the cup each year at the tournament.

Han, a native of Albertson, N.Y., has been a member of the Mount Holyoke tennis team for each of the last four seasons. The former Herricks High School standout has continued to be a mainstay for the Lyons, battling each match as the team's first flight player in singles. In her career, Han, who is a captain this season, has posted a career record of 19-43 in singles and 19-27 in doubles action.

"As a coach, I have been blessed to see the incredible developments which Nahrhee has made in her career," said MHC head coach Aldo Santiago. "She has overcome a lot and has transformed herself into a great role model, a great captain and someone that I am very proud to have seen develop and coach here at Mount Holyoke."

Han will help lead the Lyons in this weekend's action at NEWITT, which kicks off at 1pm. All of Mount Holyoke's players will be in action today, with Han and junior captain AnnElizabeth Konkel (Camp Hill, Pa./Harrisburg Academy) and first year Margaux Holloschutz (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Saddle River Day School) and senior My-Linh Nguyen (Potomac, Md./Richard Montgomery) opening the action.
