Nahrhee Han Earns Lyon of the Week Honors

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 15, 2012) – Senior Nahrhee Han has been selected as the Lyon of the Week Award recipient for October 8-14. A captain on the tennis team, Han posted a 2-1 record in both singles and doubles action, while also being named the recipient of a prestigious honor.

A native of Albertson, N.Y., Han helped lead the Lyons to a 9-0 victory over Smith College last Tuesday, posting a 6-0, 6-2 win at first singles, while winning 8-4 at first doubles with partner AnnElizabeth Konkel (Camp Hill, Pa./Harrisburg Academy).

Han then competed at the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, grabbing a 6-0, 6-0 win in singles against Salve Regina. She and Konkel also paired up for an 8-0 win over Salve Regina to advance to the second round of play. Han later fell to the top player from Amherst, while the pair also shouldered the loss in doubles to the Lord Jeffs top team.

Prior to the start of the tournament, the Lindsay Morehouse Award was presented to Han by Williams College head coach Alison Swain. The award acknowledges a senior player who signifies the ideals of sportsmanship, friendliness, character, fair play and hard work that Morehouse represented.  A 2000 Williams graduate and standout women's tennis player, Morehouse passed away during the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

Through nine contests this fall, Han has posted a 3-6 record, including a 2-5 dual meet record mark at first flight singles. She and Konkel have also gone 3-6 in doubles this season, with a 2-5 dual meet record.

Mount Holyoke returns to the courts on Tuesday with a critical NEWMAC match at Springfield at 5pm. MHC will then welcome conference –foe Babson on Saturday in the final fall match of the season at 1pm. Both matches will play a key role in determining the 2012 NEWMAC Championship field.
