Tennis Garners ITA National Academic Honors

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Aug. 23, 2012) - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently announced its All-Academic Teams as well as its Scholar Athletes for the 2011-12 season. Six members of the Lyons squad were named Scholar Athletes. In addition, the program picked up All-Academic Team accolades.

As a team, the Lyons were recognized for the ninth straight season after posting a grade point average of 3.39. In total, it was the 10th time in the last 11 years that the team has earned All-Academic honors.

Individually, six student-athletes were named 2012 Scholar Athletes by the organization including first years Sarah Anischik and Jenni Lee, sophomores Kelsey Brower, AnnElizabeth Konkel and Maya Sayarath, along with senior Sarah Moore.

For Brower, Konkel, Moore and Sayarath, it marked their second straight Scholar Athlete honors.

In order to earn Scholar Athlete status, a student-athlete must be a varsity letter recipient, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their institution for at least two semesters. To qualify as an All-Academic Team, a program must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20.
