Tennis Splits Opening Day at Seven Sisters Championship

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Apr. 13, 2013) - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team opened competition at the 2013 Seven Sisters Championship today, posting a 4-1 victory over Bryn Mawr College, but falling by the same margin to Wellesley College during the morning action. The Lyons are now 9-8 on the season after day one.

Mount Holyoke saw a strong and gutsy effort by its second doubles pair of My-Linh Nguyen and Michelle Cai, who combined for a 2-0 record on the day. The pair picked up the lone point in the morning game against Wellesley, defeating the Blue duo of Kendall Tada and Elena Bowen by a 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 margin.

The Lyons pair then posted a gutsy win over Bryn Mawr's Amelia Arnold and Rachel Genovese, taking the point by a 6-2, 6-7 (4-0), 7-6 (0-2) score.

Mount Holyoke also saw solid success in the singles during the win over Bryn Mawr as senior captain Nahrhee Han beat Jenny Vogel, 6-0, 6-0 in the first flight. Junior Eman Malik also picked up a victory in the third flight, defeating Caty Austin, 6-1, 6-1.

The Lyons will conclude action at the Seven Sisters Championship on Sunday. MHC will battle host Vassar at 10:30am before taking on Smith at 1:30pm.
