WORCESTER, Mass. - In the final day of action at the NEWMAC Championships, the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team placed sixth overall behind a number of outstanding efforts. The Lyons saw two more school records fall on day four, including a solid performance in the 200-breaststroke by junior Maya Lazarovich.
Lazarovich (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) placed ninth in her event, recording a mark of 2:28.37. That eclipsed her previous record of 2:28.53 set in 2013. Additionally, Lazarovich helped the 400-freestyle relay to seventh overall.
The foursome, which also included sophomore Bethany Aban (Poulsbo, Wash./North Kitsap), first year Emily Craig (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili Senior) and sophomore Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C./Ravencroft School), set a time of 3:39.05.
Pruden had another outstanding individual effort in the 1650-freestyle, finishing third with a time of 17:22.83. That mark shattered her previous school record time of 17:30.29, which she set in 2013.
Senior Lauren Williams (Kingston, Jamaica/Baylor School (Tenn.) finished 13th in the 200-backstroke, posting a time of 2:13.05, while first year Anne Kuenning (Bow, N.H./Bow) was 17th with a mark of 2:15.00.
Aban also had a solid swim in the 200-butterfly, finishing 11th overall with a time of 2:15.72.
Overall, the Lyons finished sixth with a total of 468.00 points. MIT was this year's victor, posting a score of 1405.00 points.
The Lyons concluded the regular season with this weekend's meet. MHC will now await selections to the NCAA Championships, of which Pruden has a strong chance of being chosen.
