Swimming & Diving Edged by Wellesley

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Despite a number of outstanding performances, the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team could not overcome Wellesley College, falling to the Blue by a 183-110 margin on Saturday. The Blue move to 4-1 in dual meet action, while the Lyons are now 5-4 overall. The meet also saw the recognition of MHC's six seniors, who were honored pre-meet.

Leading the way for Mount Holyoke was sophomore Cathleen Pruden, who won three individual events. She opened with a school record performance in the 200-freestyle, posting a mark of 1:56.95. Pruden then claimed victory in the 500-free with a time of 5:13.20. She rounded out the individual events with a win in the 200-Individual Medley (2:14.31).

Pruden also helped the 200-Medley Relay team to second overall in a time of 1:52.95. Other members of the foursome included senior Lauren Williams, junior Maya Lazarovich and sophomore Bethany Aban.

Williams also had an outstanding effort in her final career home meet, touching the wall first in the 50-free with a mark of 25.97. She then helped the 200-free relay team to second in a time of 1:44.88. Other members of the relay included junior Rachel Boynton and first years Emily Craig and Katie Tyler.

Tyler also placed second in the 50-free with a time of 26.05 and was third in the 100-free with a time of 57.34. Additionally, Craig finished second in the 100-free with a mark of 57.26.

Honored in the pre-meet ceremony for all their efforts were Mount Holyoke's six seniors, including Williams, Joselyn Auxer, Allison Burhoe, Sin Seanne Ng, Leah Townsend and Holly Watson.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on February 8 when it travels to Smith for a 1pm meet. Wellesley is back in the pool next Saturday in a tri-meet at Connecticut College.
