Swimming & Diving Powers Past Smith

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Behind a number of outstanding efforts, the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team posted a 166-133 victor at Smith College on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Lyons move to 6-4 in dual meet action, while the Pioneers are now 4-3 overall. Leading the way for MHC was sophomore Cathleen Pruden, who posted four wins, including three individual.

Pruden captured victory in the 1000-freestyle with a time of 10:40.33. She also picked up win the the 500-free (5:19.33) and the 200-Individual Medley (2:15.83). Pruden capped her day as the anchor in the victorious 400-free relay as the group posted a score of 3:52.81 for the win.

Other members of the foursome included first years Katie Tyler and Emily Craig, along with junior Rachel Boynton.

Craig also swam on to victory, touching the wall first in the 100-free with a time of 58.19. She also placed second in the 200-free with a mark of 2:05.50. Tyler went on to capture a win in the 50-free with a time of 25.80 and also helped the 200-medley relay team to victory with a time of 1:56.69.

In addition to Tyler, the foursome included senior Lauren Williams, junior Maya Lazarovich and sophomore Bethany Aban.

Aban continued her success during the meet in the butterfly events, winning the 200-fly in a time of 2:24.17 and the 100-fly with a mark of 1:01.02. Also posting victory for the Lyons was sophomore Erica Carvell, who won the 200-free with a time of 2:05.41.

Mount Holyoke is now idle until February 21 when it opens action at the 2014 NEWMAC Championships, hosted by WPI. The meet runs from Friday until Sunday.
