POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The 2014 Seven Sisters Championship concluded on Sunday at Vassar College and a number of outstanding efforts on the day helped the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team finish second of five teams at this year's meet. Wellesley won its 17th-straight title, capping the championship with 1,292.5 points.

The Lyons were paced once again on day two by an outstanding effort from sophomore Cathleen Pruden, who captured victory in the 1650-freestyle with a time of 17:41.02. That time shattered the previous Seven Sisters record, which she set herself in 2013 (18:00.19). Additionally, the mark was just shy of an NCAA B Cut (17:39.80).

Pruden also helped the 400-free relay team to second overall in a time of 3:45.14. Other members of the relay included first years Katie Tyler and Emily Craig, along with sophomore Bethany Aban.

Craig also shined in the 100-free, finishing third overall with a time of 56.84. The Lyons picked up key points in the event as Aban placed fourth (57.10) and Tyler swam to sixth (57.28). Aban also had a strong showing in the 200-butterfly, placing sixth overall with a time of 2:22.78.

In the 200-breaststroke, junior Maya Lazarovich placed fourth with a time of 2:36.15, while sophomore Sarah Crocker was seventh, touching the wall with a time of 2:40.79. Additionally, senior Lauren Williams placed sixth in the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:20.03.

Wellesley, which captured victory in 10 of 20 events, was followed by Mount Holyoke, which posted 792.5 points to place runner-up for the second consecutive year. Host Vassar was third with 661 points, followed by Smith (560) and Bryn Mawr (259).

The Lyons return to the pool on January 25 when they face Wellesley at home at 1pm.
