POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Day one of action at the 2014 Seven Sisters Championships has concluded and through the first 13 events, the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team sits in second place among five teams at this year's event. The Lyons were paced on day one by an outstanding effort from sophomore Cathleen Pruden, who won three events, including two in record setting times.

Pruden captured victory in the 500-freestyle, posting a time of 5:05.97. That mark was nearly a second faster than her own previous record of 5:06.22, set in 2013. She then claimed the 200-Individual Medley event with a time of 2:09.32, besting her school record mark of 2:11.36 by two full seconds.

Finally, Pruden won her signature event, the 400-IM in a time of 4:29.55. That mark was not only a Seven Sisters record, but also an NCAA B Cut as well. Additionally, Pruden helped the Lyons in several relays on the day, including an outstanding effort in the 800-meter relay.

Pruden took the anchor leg in the event, splashing into the water with the Lyons in third place after the first three swimmers. Her speed in the final laps, powered MHC past Vassar and into the second-place spot as the foursome finished with a time of 8:14.69. Other members of the relay included first year Emily Craig, junior Maya Lazarovich and sophomore Erica Carvell.

The Lyons picked up a vast number of points with a great effort in the 50-free, led by senior Lauren Williams, who was second with a time of 25.72. First year Katie Tyler placed third (25.92), followed by Craig in sixth (26.30) and sophomore Bethany Aban in eighth (26.40).

Williams also had a solid race in the 100-backstroke, finishing fourth in a time of 1:03.97, while sophomore Sarah Crocker placed sixth in the 100-breaststroke with a mark of 1:14.26. Lazarovich also finished strong, placing seventh in the event with a time of 1:14.44.

Currently, Wellesley leads the meet with a total of 865.5 points. MHC is second with 548.5 points, while Vassar (438), Smith (371) and Bryn Mawr (195) round out the remainder of the field. Action at this year's championship continues on Sunday morning at 10am.
