Swimming & Diving Powers Past Western Connecticut State

DANBURY, Conn. - Powered by a number of solid victories, including a school record mark for sophomore Cathleen Pruden, the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team defeated Western Connecticut State University, 176.5-93.5 in dual meet action this afternoon. With the win, the Lyons move to 3-1 on the season.

Pruden helped the MHC effort on the day, posting a school record time of 2:11.36 in the 200-individual medley. She exhibitioned in the event, which saw her surpass her old mark of 2:12.68, set in 2012. Pruden also claimed victory in the 500-freestyle with a time of 5:12.04.

Additionally, Pruden swam the first leg of the victorious 200-medley relay team, which posted a time of 2:01.35 for the win. Other members of the relay team included sophomore Bethany Aban, senior Sin Seanne Ng and rookie Katie Tyler.

Aban also won the 100-butterfly with a time of 1:01.26, while Tyler captured the 50-free with a mark of 26.21. Senior captain Allison Burhoe was a winner in the 100-IM, posting a time of 1:10.68, while junior Rachel Boynton touched the wall first in the 100-backstroke with a mark of 1:09.75.

Sophomore Erica Carvell was a double-winner on the day, posting victory in the 50-fly (29.26) and the 200-free (2:05.98), while junior Maya Lazarovich captured the 100-breaststroke (1:12.54) and the 1,000-free (11:38.25).

The Lyons are now idle until December 7 when they head to WPI to compete in the Gompei Invitational. Action runs through December 8.
