Swimming & Diving Shoulders Loss at Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. - Despite a four-victory performance from sophomore Cathleen Pruden, the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team could not overcome a strong effort by Assumption College, falling to the Division II Greyhounds by a 167-95 margin. The Lyons are now 1-1 in dual meet action this season, while the Hounds move to 2-0 overall.

Pruden (Raleigh, N.C./Ravencroft School) helped get MHC going right off the bat as she swam the last leg of the victorious 200-medley relay team, which posted a pool record time of 1:54.82. Other members of the relay included senior Lauren Williams (Kingston, Jamica/Baylor School (TN)), junior Maya Lazarovich (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) and sophomore Bethany Aban (Poulsbo, Wash./North Kitsap).

Pruden went on to win the first of three individual victories, beginning with the 1,000-freestyle, which she claimed with a time of 10:43.38. She then went on to win the 500-free (5:17.90) and her signature event, the 400-individual medley (4:42.98).

Aban also went on to win and individual event, capturing 100-butterfly with a time of 1:01.34. Lazarovich had several other solid swims, including second place finishes in both the 200-free (2:01.98) and the 200-breaststroke (2:34.66).

Mount Holyoke returns to the pool on November 16 when it hosts Westfield State in a 1pm dual meet against the Owls. Live video for that meet will be available by clicking HERE.
