Field Hockey Overpowers Simmons For Third Straight Win

BOSTON, Mass. (Oct. 12, 2011) – Senior forward Shara Robertson racked up two goals and two assists to boost the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team to a convincing 7-1 victory over Simmons College this evening at the Winsor School Field. With the win, the Lyons ran their streak to three. They have outscored their opponents 16-1 over that span.

Angelica Pascual Both sides went scoreless until the 24:04 mark, when junior forward Angelica Pascual knocked in her first goal of the year off an assist from senior forward Kirsti Wiemokly. Just over a minute later, senior forward Jess Fajardo recorded her 12th goal of the fall to push the lead to 2-0.

The Lyons continued to roll in the second half, pouring in five more goals. After junior Stephanie Pascual converted her third penalty stroke of the year at the 36:33 mark, Robertson eluded two Simmons defenders and slipped a shot past sophomore Renna Smith less than a minute later to push the lead to 4-0.

First year midfielder Kirsten Kilburn used an assist from Robertson to put the Lyons in front 5-0 in the 46th minute. Robertson then found the back of the cage for her team-leading 14th tally of the season at the 58:05 mark. First year midfielder Aurora Rougeau was credited with the assist on the play.

Simmons broke through for its lone goal in the 60th minute, when first year Kelly Williamson scored off a feed from classmate Meghan Fay.

Kilburn took advantage of another assist from Robertson to close out the scoring at the 66:09 mark.

Mount Holyoke finished with advantages in both shots (48-10) and corners (18-8). Senior goalkeeper Katie Gibson made seven saves for the Lyons. Meanwhile, Smith turned away 18 shots for the Sharks.

Mount Holyoke (8-3, 3-1 NEWMAC) will resume its NEWMAC schedule on Saturday, when it visits MIT at 1:00 p.m.
