Robertson Named NEWMAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week

Shara Robertson

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Sept. 26, 2011) – Mount Holyoke College senior Shara Robertson has been named NEWMAC Field Hockey Player of the Week for the week of September 19-25. It is the second time in her career that she has earned the award. The forward racked up three goals and three assists in a perfect 2-0 week for the Lyons.

Robertson got her week started with a two-goal performance in Mount Holyoke's 5-0 victory over Western New England University on Tuesday. After scoring what proved to be the winner 2:08 into the contest, she knocked in her 50th career goal in the waning minutes.

The forward was at it again on Saturday, when she boosted her team to a 5-3 triumph over NEWMAC rival Wellesley College. In addition to dishing out a career-best three assists in the contest, she also found the back of the cage for her 11th career winner. Her tip-in at the 6:12 mark opened the flood gates for a four-goal explosion that spanned 10:53 and set the tone for Mount Holyoke's third win in a row.  In the process, the Lyons put the brakes on a 14-match slide against the Blue.

Robertson has erupted for 24 points on nine goals and six assists over Mount Holyoke's first six matches this season. Her outstanding play up front has helped the Lyons outscore their opponents 34-7.

Over the course of her career, the forward has racked up 115 points on 51 goals and 13 assists. With 10 more tallies, she would surpass Krista Lindquist as Mount Holyoke's all-time scoring leader.

No stranger to NEWMAC accolades, Robertson was placed on the All-Conference First Team last fall after earning Second Team accolades as a sophomore. In 2008, the forward became just the second player in program history to claim NEWMAC Rookie of the Year accolades.

Robertson was also named to the NFHCA All-Region First Team last season after taking home Second Team honors in 2009.

Mount Holyoke (5-1, 2-0 NEWMAC) will round out its four-match homestand versus Amherst College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
