Chase Collects NEWMAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week Accolades

Tricia Chase

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 10, 2011) – Mount Holyoke College senior Tricia Chase has been named NEWMAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 3-9. It is the second time in her career that she has earned a NEWMAC Weekly Award. With Chase leading the way, the Lyons posted a pair of shutouts in a perfect 2-0 week.

The captain was at her best on Saturday, when she pushed Mount Holyoke to a 5-0 triumph over Babson College. Over the course of the contest, she frustrated Babson's high-powered attack with suffocating defensive pressure all over the field. Chase helped limit the Beavers to just five shots and five corners. She was also dominant in the Lyons' 4-0 victory over Nichols College on Tuesday. The Bison managed just five shots and three corners.

Chase has anchored a defensive unit that has surrendered just 1.30 goals per outing over its first 10 matches. In addition to its two shutouts last week, Mount Holyoke has also blanked Smith College and Western New England University. Chase has been at the center of it all, collecting four defensive saves. She has also chipped in with a goal and two assists on the offensive end of the field.

In 59 career matches, Chase has recorded 17 defensive saves, seven goals and 12 assists.

No stranger to NEWMAC accolades, she was placed on the All-Conference Second Team last fall after earning First Team accolades as a sophomore. Chase was also named to the NFHCA All-Region Second Team last season after taking home First Team honors in 2009.

Mount Holyoke (7-3, 3-1 NEWMAC) will return to action on Wednesday, when it visits Simmons College for a non-conference contest beginning at 6:00 p.m.
