    Led by sixth-year head coach Sonnie Terrell, the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team posted an 11-17 record in 2013. The Lyons, who captured victories in each of their first eight contests, also recorded a 1-9 mark in NEWMAC play to finish 10th overall in the conference standings.
  • Volleyball Notches 3-1 Win Over WPI in Season Finale

    Senior Martina Kneifel stuffed the stat sheets with 16 kills, 20 digs and seven aces as visiting Mount Holyoke defeated WPI 3-1 in the 2013 NEWMAC volleyball season finale for both teams on Saturday afternoon. MHC took the match by scores of 25-13, 25-22, 15-25, 25-16. The Lyons end their season with a 11-17 record and a 1-9 conference ledger. WPI completes the 2013 campaign with a 7-21 overall mark and a 0-10 record in league play.
  • Volleyball Shoulders 3-0 Loss at Smith

    Aided by a double-digit kill effort from two players, the Smith College volleyball team defeated Mount Holyoke College, 3-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday evening. The Pioneers, who honored their five seniors in a pre-game ceremony, improve to 20-7 overall and 5-4 in conference play, while the Lyons fall to 10-17 and 0-9 in the NEWMAC.
  • Volleyball Wraps-Up Play at 2013 Hall of Fame Tournament

    The Mount Holyoke College volleyball team wrapped up play at the 2013 Volleyball Hall of Fame Tournament on Saturday. The Lyons, who co-hosted the event with Smith College, fell to Colby by a 3-1 score and later dropped a 3-1 decision to Bridgewater State. With the defeats, MHC slips to 10-16. Colby moved to 8-11 after the match, while the Bears improved to 14-17.
  • Volleyball Shoulders Loss to Westfield State in Hall of Fame Opener

    Despite a 16-kill performance from senior Martina Kneifel, the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team could not battle back, falling 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 16-25, 15-25) to Westfield State in the opening game of the 2013 Hall of Fame Invitational, hosted by MHC and Smith. The Owls move to 16-12 on the season with the victory, while the Lyons fall to 10-14 overall.

    CHICOPEE, Mass. – Senior Martina Kneifel’s match-high nine kill effort paced the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-14) victory at Elms College on Wednesday at Picknelly Arena. With the loss, Elms moves to 6-18 overall and Mount Holyoke improves to 10-13 overall.
  • Volleyball Tripped Up in NEWMAC/LEC Action

    The Mount Holyoke College volleyball team hosted the 2013 NEWMAC/Little East Challenge on Saturday at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. The event, which features the Lyons and Smith from the NEWMAC and Keene State and Plymouth State from the Little East, saw the Pioneers go undefeated on the day with a 2-0 mark. MHC slips to 9-13 after falling in both matches against its Little East foes.
  • Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Loss to Springfield

    Led by a dominant effort in the third set, the Springfield College volleyball team powered its way to a 3-0 (25-20, 28-26, 25-17) victory over Mount Holyoke College in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday evening. With the win, the Pride improve to 17-2 overall and 7-1 in conference play, while the Lyons slip to 9-11 and 0-8 in the NEWMAC.
  • Wellesley Wins 2013 Seven Sisters Volleyball Championship

    Wellesley College won their 12th Seven Sisters Championship, including their third in the last five years as the Blue defeated Mount Holyoke College, 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-14) to secure the title on Sunday afternoon. The Blue had a 3-0 record entering the final match of the weekend, but had secured its crown earlier in the day with a 3-1 win over this year’s runner-up, Smith College.
  • 2013 Seven Sisters Volleyball Championship: Day 1

    Day one of action at the 2013 Seven Sisters Championships, hosted by Mount Holyoke College at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium, has concluded and through the opening five games there has been a lot of excitement. Wellesley College and Smith College are both 2-0, while the host Lyons are 1-1. Bryn Mawr College and Vassar College are both 0-2 after the first day of action.
  • Volleyball Suffers NEWMAC Loss at Coast Guard

    Senior Kelsey DePorto had a match-high 17 kills leading Coast Guard to its fifth straight win, a 3-0 victory over Mount Holyoke in a NEWMAC match. Coast Guard won by scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-17 to improve to 15-5 overall and 4-2 in the NEWMAC while Mount Holyoke dropped to 8-7 overall and 0-7 in the conference.
  • Mount Holyoke Set to Host the 2013 Seven Sisters Volleyball Championship

    The 2013 Seven Sisters Volleyball Championship is slated to take place on the campus of Mount Holyoke College this weekend. Tournament action will kick off with five matches on Saturday and conclude with five more on Sunday. A total of five teams from the Seven Sisters schools are participating in the annual event.

    The Mount Holyoke College volleyball team rallied for a big win in the second set, but couldn’t get past Wellesley College in the final two frames, falling to the visiting Blue by a 3-1 margin in NEWMAC action on Tuesday evening. The victory moves Wellesley to 16-2 on the season and to a perfect 5-0 in conference play. Mount Holyoke slips to 8-6 overall and 0-6 in the NEWMAC.

    The Wheaton College women’s volleyball team claimed a 3-1 victory over Mount Holyoke College by scores of 25-22, 19-25, 25-17 and 25-16 in a NEWMAC matchup on Saturday afternoon at Emerson Gymnasium. Wheaton is now 9-7 and 2-1 in conference play, while MHC drops to 8-5 and 0-5 in the NEWMAC.

With the win, the Cougars are now 6-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while the Lyons fall to 8-4 and 0-4 in the NEWMAC.

    The MIT women’s volleyball team battled Mount Holyoke College for a 25-23, 25-13, 25-22 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference victory on Tuesday night. With the win, the Engineers improved to 10-5 on the year and 2-1 in league play while the Lyons dipped to 8-3 overall and 0-3 in the NEWMAC.
  • Volleyball Falls to Emerson in Five Sets

    Senior outside hitter Alyssa Thorne posted a game-best 18 kills to help Emerson College battle to a 3-2 victory over Mount Holyoke College in NEWMAC action on Saturday. With the victory – its first as a member of the NEWMAC – the Lions move to 9-4 overall and 1-0 in conference. MHC is now 8-2 and slips to 0-2 in the NEWMAC.
  • Volleyball Shoulders First Loss of the Season

    Aided by double-digit kill efforts from sophomore Krissy Robertson and first year Lorriane Mackiewicz, the Babson College volleyball team defeated Mount Holyoke College, 3-0 in the NEWMAC opener for both teams. With the win, the visiting Beavers move to 7-5 overall, while the Lyons shoulder their first loss of the season and are now 8-1.
  • Volleyball Moves to 8-0; Downs Westfield State & UMass-Dartmouth

    The Mount Holyoke College volleyball team used several key rallies and a dominant effort on offense to defeat Westfield State University and UMass-Dartmouth by scores of 3-0 each in tri-match action at Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium on Saturday. With the win, the Lyons move to 8-0 on the season, while the Owls of Westfield State move to 5-4 overall. The Corsairs slip to 1-6 on the year.

With the win, the Lyons move to 6-0 on the season, while the Trailblazers are now 3-4.

    Powered by an all-around effort, the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory at Newbury College on Tuesday evening. With the victory, the Lyons remain unbeaten on the season with a 3-0 mark. The Nighthawks move to 2-2 overall. Sophomore Emma Sweeting recorded 13 kills in the match, while junior Kaleen Iwema had 15 digs on the night.
  • Volleyball Takes Two; Defeats Bay Path and Lyndon State

    The Mount Holyoke College volleyball team went undefeated for the day taking six straight sets after defeating host Bay Path, 3-0, and then taking Lyndon State 3-0 for the season opener. The Lyons, who were led by sophomore Emma Sweeting's 19 kills on the day, are now 2-0 on the young season.
