Cambridge, Mass – The Mount Holyoke track & field team competed at the 2018 New England DIII Championships on Saturday. The hosts MIT took home this year's Championship with an overall score of 161 total points. The Lyons had five athletes qualify during the regular season.

Kicking off the day for the Lyons was sophomore Emma Raney (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), who finished 11th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a career-best time of 12:05.40. Raney has continued to improve throughout the season, besting her time by over a minute. She took down her previous personal record time of 12:07.14 at the Mount Holyoke Spring Fling Invitational on April 14th.

Classmate Charleen Theroux (Coventry, R.I./Coventry) also shined, placing sixth overall in the 400m dash. Theroux's time of 58:51 wiped away her previous personal best of 58:63 at the NEWMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship on April 28th. Theroux went on to join first years Tamara Mukulu (Nairobi, Kenya/Brookhouse International), Isabelle Wohlin (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley HS) and Ireland Clare Kennedy (Oakland, Calif./Holy Names) in the 4x400m relay. The Lyons foursome also beat their previous best time, placing 12th overall after crossing the line in 4:11.61. The performance takes down the 4:12.37 mark ran at the NEWMAC Championships.

The Lyons will wait to see if Theroux qualified in the 400m dash for the Open New England Championships next Friday in Hanover, New Hampshire.
