Theroux Resets School Pentathlon Record at New Englands

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Action at the 2018 New England Division III Championships got underway on Friday afternoon at Springfield College as Mount Holyoke College student-athlete, Charleen Theroux competed in the Pentathlon. In addition to re-setting her own school record, Theroux also recorded four season-best marks in the five event competition. Highlighting her effort was a third-place finish in the high jump, where she earned 614 points with a distance of 5.20 meters.

Theroux, a sophomore who hails from Coventry, R.I., opened the day's action with a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. She posted a time of 9.53, which bested her previous season-high of 9.65 - set at the Tufts Cupid Challenge last week. In the high jump, she posted ninth overall with a mark of 1.45 meters (4-09.00), before notching another season-best in the shot put. Recording a throw of 9.77 meters (32-00.75), it eclipsed her best at the Cupid meet of 9.16 meters, for fourth overall.

Following her effort in the long jump, Theroux rounded out the event with a fifth-place mark of 2:31.09 in the 800-meter run. That mark was also a season-best.

Overall, Theroux recorded 3,175 points to finish sixth amongst the field of 13 competitors. Williams College's Summer Solstice-Thomas earned the victory with 3,509 points.

Mount Holyoke will now see first year Isabelle Wohlin, along with the 4x800 relay compete on Saturday. Wohlin will be in action for the 60-meter hurdles at 2:20pm, while the relay team is expected to start at 4:40pm. The relay could be moved forward by 15 minutes depending on how fast the meet is running.
