Track & Field Has Solid Performance at the Gordon Kelly Invite

Cambridge, Mass – The Mount Holyoke College track & field team had a solid outing today at the Gordon Kelly Invitational. The non-team scoring event saw a number personal-records, highlighted by first year Isabelle Wohlin, who had MHC's top finish of the day.

Kicking off the day in the 3,000-meter run, sophomore Emma Raney (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), who finished in a personal-best 11:15.25, turned in a 10th place finish. Classmate Michelle Serrano (Los Angeles, Calif./West Adams Preparatory) also recorded a season-best time, crossing the line in 11:49.62. In the one-mile event, first year Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University HS) finished seventh and was just five seconds off her best with a time of 5:45.43. Simone then competed in the 800-meter dash, notching her career-best time of 2:32.08 good for 11th place. Following right on her heels was sophomore Charleen Theroux (Coventry, R.I./Coventry), who broke her best time by over three seconds with a mark of 2:32.97 in 12th place. Heading to the 1000-meter, senior Mia Barnes (Thornville, Ohio/Monteverde Friends School) finished sixth with a 3:40.01 mark.

Earning the top finish of the day for the Lyons was Wohlin (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley HS), who recorded a time of 9.61 in the 60m hurdles for third place. She was followed by Theroux, who finished in 9.75. Wohlin also went on to place sixth in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in a season-best 28.15.

On the field, junior Julia Hecking (Greenville, Pa./Greenvilee) continued to improve as she had a long distance of 12.09m, which eclipsed her previous-best of 11.68m.

Mount Holyoke will be back in action next Friday at the New England DIII Championships in Springfield, MA.
