Outdoor Track and Field Takes Part in Eastern Connecticut Invitational

MANSFIELD, Conn. (Apr. 13, 2012) – The Mount Holyoke College outdoor track and field team took part in the fifth annual Eastern Connecticut State University Invitational this afternoon at the Mansfield Athletic Complex. Joining the Lyons at the non-scoring meet were Trinity College and Mahattanville College.

Mount Holyoke wrapped up the day with a pair of first place finishes. First year Meara Algama took home top honors in the javelin with a toss of 30.37 meters. Meanwhile, sophomore Kathleen O'Connor won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:16.99.

Senior Miriam Larson-Koester continued her outstanding season with second place performances in both the discus (37.44 meters) and the hammer (34.16).

The Lyons also received a boost from junior Jillian London, who collected second place in the javelin (30.04 meters) and fourth place in the hammer (29.79 meters).

Other second place finishers included first year Dana Fry (5,000-meter run – 19:57.63) and senior Holly Valenzuela (8,000-meter run – 2:26.61).

First years Emily Baker (5,000-meter run – 20:10.81) and Jennie Ochterski (discus – 24.93 meters) turned in third place performances in their respective events. Meanwhile, sophomore Andrea Trinkle finished fifth in the long jump (4.59 meters).

Mount Holyoke will return to action next weekend at the Bowdoin College Aloha Relays. The event is slated to begin on Friday and conclude on Saturday.
