Longtime head coach Tina Lee guided the Mount Holyoke outdoor track and field team through a competitive nine-meet schedule in 2012.
Miriam Larson-Koester set the tone for the team with her outstanding production in the throwing events.
After an impressive regular season, the senior turned in a dominant performance at the NEWMAC Championships. She was at her best in the discus, where she took home top honors with a toss of 40.38 meters. In the process, she shattered a longstanding meet record and earned First Team All-Conference honors. Larson-Koester also secured third place in the shot put (11.16 meters) and seventh place in the hammer (38.62 meters).
Larson-Koester went on to take fifth place at the New England Division III Championships before shattering her school record with a sixth place toss of 42.06 meters at the New England Open Championships. She closed out her career with a fifth place performance at the ECAC Championships.
She picked up numerous awards along the way. In addition to earning All-Region honors, she also secured All-New England and All-ECAC accolades.
Each of her performances added points to Mount Holyoke's team totals. The Lyons finished ninth at the NEWMAC Championships, 25th at the New England Division III Championships, 32nd at the New England Championships and 42nd at the ECAC Championships.
Senior Felicia Cordeiro broke her own record in the steeplechase with a seventh place time of 12:35.58 at the NEWMAC Championships.
Meanwhile, first year Meara Algama made an immediate impact with her outstanding work in the javelin. After securing second place at the Coast Guard Academy Invitational (30.24 meters), the rookie took home top honors at Wesleyan University's Swanson Invitational (29.46 meters). One week later, she claimed first place at the Eastern Connecticut State University Invitational (30.37 meters).
Other strong performances throughout the year came from junior Connie Ward (shot put), sophomore Maeve Stier (high jump), junior Maddie Ballon (pole vault), first year Anna Rapperport (sprints), junior Jillian London (throws), first year Dana Fry (distance) and sophomore Kathleen O'Connor (hurdles).
